January 28, 2017 - UPDATE
I want to take a moment to clarify something that came up several times this week while talking with residents of my district. As a CBRM councillor I was offered the choice of submitting mileage and expenses for travel and related district work and getting reimbursed or taking the $140.00 a week travel allowance. I chose neither option because 1/3 of my salary is tax free and I believe this is sufficient to cover expenses. I have not submitted any receipts and have no intention too.
In addition I was offered a cell phone and free unlimited package which I also turned down because I already have a personal cell phone and plan so I just integrated my CBRM work on my own phone and pay my own bill.
I did not enroll in the pension plan because of my views on term limits for councillors, I did not enrol in the benefits package because I have current coverage. Travelling off island to attend conferences is something I have not done or plan to do because to me it is not fiscally responsible and there are more cost effective ways to use technology for training and education.
I appreciate that this may not be possible for other councillors given the size and geographical location of their districts and the additional costs they incur because of these factors. I am also blessed to have a career, in addition to being a councillor, that allows me the time and flexibility to serve my community.
Please feel free to contact me by phone or email if you have any questions.

Please help me get something done about the condition of our winter roads this by calling Nova Scotia Transportation at 902-563-2245 and registering your concerns. Once you register your inquiry or complaint then we can track it and see how long it will take to get to your road plowed.
This is a new service and if we use it properly maybe we can get our roads done quicker and better.
Feel free to call me with any questions. They have a new system to collect areas of concern. Don’t forget to please EMAIL ME email@example.com me as well so I can follow up with them and your MLA. The province needs to know this is getting worse every year.
December 16, 2016 – POWER OUTAGE MAP FROM NOVA SCOTIA POWER

December 14, 2016- Nova Scotia Province's Winter Plow Tracker
The province and the CBRM clear snow from roads differently – and District 4 snow removal is done by the provincial government (not by the CBRM). The CBRM waits until the snow stops and then sends all their fleet out at one time whereas but the province starts clearing roads as soon as the snow starts and they don't stop until its done. This is because all highways and major routes such as Westmount Road, Coxheath Road, Kings Road, etc must be kept clean at all times to the best of their abilities. I'm told this is legislative. I will be communicating with both departments in the future to review protocol and when I know more I will pass it on! Here is a great Provincial Tracking website where This may be helpful to you to track activity in our neighbourhood.
This Provincial Tracking website shows the winter maintenance activities taking place on provincially owned and maintained roadways including all of District 4. This may be helpful to you to track activity in our neighbourhood.
Don't forget to CALL Nova Scotia Transportation (902) 563-2245 to inquiry about when your street will be plowed. This is a new service and if we use it properly maybe we can get our roads done quicker and better. Don’t forget to CALL me too at (902) 539-2144 (or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org) so I can follow up.
